To restore the wrought iron and keep it safe from the elements, do the following when the metal is being exposed by peeling and cracking paint.
- de-scale surface by wire brushing and sanding smooth
- use a green rust remover solution, then wipe clean
- primer the surface, then paint (Tremclad - Deep Green rust paint)
- Spray silicone on and into the bolt hole to prevent rust there too (Spring and Fall)
To stop these from pulling away from your wall, please do the following:
- Remove loose brick and clean off old construction adhesive from it, you can do this with a putty knife or any metal scraper
- Level the ground below the brick. You can do this by putting sand down, setting the brick into the sand, and using a level, you can add more sand as needed to have a level base for the stone
- Apply a bead of construction adhesive to the back of the brick, where it touches the brick wall
- Set brick in place on sand base and press it to the wall, making the adhesive stick
